What is a Sealand container number?
A shipping container number is a unique 11-character code used to identify containers in global logistics, regardless of the shipping line or operator. This number follows the ISO 6346 standard and consists of:
- 3-letter owner/operator code + 1 equipment category identifier (e.g. MSKU, MRKU, MRSU, TLLU)
- 6-digit serial number
- 1 check digit
Common Prefix Examples Used for Sealand Shipments and Other Containers:
- MSKU – Maersk container
- MRKU – Maersk container
- MRSU – Maersk container
- TLLU – ISO 6346-compliant container prefix

*Sealand services were integrated into Maersk. Containers used for former Sealand services may therefore carry Maersk or third-party leasing-company prefixes while following the same ISO 6346 numbering standard.

Sealand was a regional container shipping brand within Maersk, operating services in markets including the Americas, Europe, the Mediterranean, and Asia. The Sealand regional brands were later integrated into Maersk as part of the group's move toward a unified logistics brand.
As a result, current services that were previously marketed under Sealand are now generally offered and managed through Maersk.
